French Snails with Cheese and French Fries

Ingredients

  • 24 escargots (snails), cleaned
  • 100g butter, softened
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 50g fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 100g grated cheese (Gruyère or Parmesan)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 loaf of French baguette (for serving)
  • 500g potatoes (for French fries)
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional, for fries)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F).
  2. In a bowl, mix the softened butter with minced garlic, chopped parsley, grated cheese, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Place the escargots in their shells on a baking dish. Fill each shell with the garlic cheese butter mixture.
  4. Bake the escargots in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until bubbly and golden.
  5. While the snails are baking, prepare the French fries. Peel and cut the potatoes into thin strips.
  6. Heat oil in a deep frying pan or fryer to 180°C (350°F).
  7. Fry the potato strips in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels, and season with salt and paprika.
  8. Serve the baked escargots warm, alongside crispy French fries and slices of French baguette.
