Ingredients

  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 250ml warm water
  • 5g active dry yeast
  • 30g sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 10g salt
  • 30ml vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, dissolve active dry yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil to the flour mixture. Knead until it forms a smooth dough.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and knead for 5 more minutes.
  6. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a small ball.
  7. Roll each ball into a circle about 10cm in diameter.
  8. Place a filling of your choice in the center, gather the edges of the dough and pinch to seal.
  9. Place the shaped buns on parchment paper squares in a steamer basket, leaving space between each bun.
  10. Bring water to a boil in a steamer pot, then steam the buns for about 15 minutes.
